Inclement Weather and Pool Closure Policy

Indoor & Outdoor Pools

If the pool is guarded we will follow the policies established by the facility. If the pool is unguarded, for safety reasons we will be unable to hold lessons if there is lightening or thunder within the area of the pool. We must wait a minimum of 20 minutes after the last sound of thunder or flash of lightening before resuming instruction.

Outdoor Pools Only

Lessons will be cancelled if the temperature is unseasonably cool or hot and unsafe for swimming. Lessons are not necessarily cancelled due to rain.

How will you know if lessons are cancelled due to inclement weather?

One of the instructors will make his or her best effort to call all participants if it is known ahead of time that a lesson will be cancelled. Sometimes it is not possible for us to contact everyone prior to a lesson, so if you are questioning whether lessons will be held, please call our weather hotline at 467-4139.

Make Ups for Classes Missed Due to Inclement Weather or Other Pool Closures

If the pool has to be closed and 15 minutes or more of the class has been taught, the class will not be made up. If the pool has to be closed and less than 15 minutes of the class was taught, the class will be made up.

Make ups as a result of pool closure will occur on the pre-determined make up days, or if a pre-determined make up day is no longer available, at a mutually agreed upon time. To view the pre-determined make up days, click here. Please make sure you can be available on these pre-schedule make up days.

Attendance and Make Up Policy

Instructor Cancels Lesson
If an instructor of Atlantis Swim School has to miss a lesson, every effort is made to find a substitue instructor. If a sub is unable to be found, the class will be rescheduled, and you will be called and/or emailed to be informed of the cancellation.

Make Up Policy for Triangle Aquatics Center
mom holding baby while he floats on his backBecause we have to reserve pool space in advance, we are unable to offer make ups for this location. Please try your best to attend all lessons.

Below is the Make Up Policy for All Other Locations
Student Misses A Group Lesson

If a student is unable to make one of the scheduled group lessons, then it cannot be made up except by receiving prior permission from your instructor to attend a different group class that has an open space. This means you must give them prior notice of your absence and that you are responsible for approaching the instructor about a make up. Make ups will only occur if there is another class of similar skill level that has enough space to accommodate the child. If this class does not exist then the class cannot be made up. All make ups must be completed within one session of the last scheduled lesson.

Student Misses A Private Lesson
At least a 48-hour notice is required to reschedule private lessons. Please inform your instructor directly if you will be missing a lesson. If a student fails to show for a lesson without a 48-hour notice, that lesson cannot be made up. All rescheduled lessons must be completed within the same season as the original appointment. For private lessons that are being shared by two families, please note that this policy applies when all of the students miss a class. If some students attend the lesson and some students do not, there is no make up provided for the students who miss the class.

Medical Issues and Clearance

Registrants are required to disclose any known medical conditions that may be contraindications to swimming or that may affect the students performance in the water. If you have issues that may be contraindications to swimming, a doctor''s medical clearance will be required.

We reserve the right to:

  • change these policies with or without notice in order to better serve our students & families
  • change a student''s skill level group after the first week of classes if the instructor deems the current group level inappropriate for that student.
  • refuse service to anyone whose behavior is not in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the school.
